LITERATURE: Shaping Our Future

We all know that our country was known as "The Pearl of the Orient" because of its unique natural resources. The Philippines is also a heritage of cultural traits that influenced by its past colonizer. And those cultural traits was preseved and still remains on our hearts. It is important to one country to preserve their origin--their culture, because it will be the reference of their identity. Our country was colonized by different people who came here. The Spanish colonized our country for almost 300 years and because of their bad colonial administration in our country, various writers in that period do novels about their status at that time. Some Filipinos on that time was working as stage actresses/actors in various peryahan on that time. I can definitely say that on that time, many literary works evolved. Why? Because of the influence of Spanish colonization, they tend to do this kind of works to inform our fellowmen that we are enslaved by the Spaniards. Because of this, Filipinos nationalism prevailed.

Next period was the colonization of the Americans. Their management in our country has become beautiful because they have given us an education. Because we had the education, the writers in those days had more extensive knowledge on writing more of their works.

The variety and abundance of Philippine literature evolved even before the colonial periods. Folk tales, epics, poems and others existed in most ethnolinguistic groups that were passed on from generations to generations through word of mouth.

  1. If we derelict our origin, we will lose our future, because like what I said, our origin is the reference of our identity.
